Anders Lossius
Graduate Student
Anders Lossius is a Canadian, Italian, and Norwegian citizen who grew up and spent most of his life in Toronto, Ontario. He attended Queen’s University for his undergraduate studies in Engineering Physics, with a concentration in computer methods. Anders’ passion for research began when he learned about gravitational waves and the physics and the engineering required to detect them. Since then, he has worked on post-processing for gravitational-wave data with the Virgo Collaboration and on optical techniques to improve detector efficiency with the LIGO group. Anders then completed a one-year Master’s in Theoretical Physics at Imperial College London, focusing on gravitation and cosmology. Most recently, Anders joined the LIGO group at MIT under the supervision of Nergis Mavalvala. His research interests are in advanced quantum and classical optical techniques to enhance LIGO’s detection efficiency and to enable precision measurements in gravitation.
