Internships

If you are a high school student or under the age of 18 and interested in summer research internships in astrophysics or space science, please consult MIT's page listing established programs at K-12 Opportunities and Outreach. These excellent programs have annual application cycles with an open and advertised selection process. If you are selected for such a program, many MKI researchers would welcome the opportunity to serve as your mentor. In these cases, the selecting program must collect necessary forms from you and your guardian(s) and ensure background checks have been completed for supervisors.
Please be advised: high school students and other minors should not contact MKI faculty or staff directly soliciting individual / ad-hoc projects in research or education outside of the programs listed above. Such requests will be rejected by MKI headquarters without review or acknowledgement. MKI policy forbids faculty and staff researchers from ad-hoc hiring of individual minors, outside of the programs linked above.
This policy includes requests for paid and unpaid internships as well as requests for in-person and remote participation. Minors are defined as students under the age of 18, with the exception of enrolled MIT undergraduates and cross-registered Wellesley College students.
