MIT Astrogazers

The Astrogazers want you to see and think beyond the limits of the physical world and the space we occupy in the vastness of the universe. Bringing astronomy to the street, this student-led ‘sidewalk astronomy’ project is an outreach effort started by MKI grad students and postdocs a few years ago. We bring our telescopes to the sidewalks and offer passersby the opportunity to view and observe astronomical objects. We also participate in various events around the Cambridge/Boston area.

Ga3da Falakia

One of MKI’s astronomers from Tunisia has created a podcast about astronomy in Tunisian Arabic, a dialect spoken by approximately 12 million people in Tunisia, North Africa. A goal is to expand this to include the native languages of other people in the research group.

Astronomy On Tap

Astronomy on Tap is a world-wide program in which professional astronomers give informal science talks in local bars, followed by astronomy-themed trivia and q&a. Each event consists of two 20-minute talks on some aspect of astronomy/astrophysics with trivia and space science. The local chapter, which includes MKI grad students, organizes public talks at local watering holes, cafes and bookstores.

Warrior Scholars

MIT hosts a local chapter of a national project. Veterans are invited to apply for a chance to spend a week on campus learning physics and astronomy and sampling the work done at MKI.
