Arnab Sarkar

arnabsar@mit.edu

Arnab is a postdoctoral associate in Dr. Mark Bautz’s group. His research targets one of astronomy’s deepest questions: how and when are the chemical elements – essential building blocks of cosmic structures and life – formed and spread across the cosmos? Using UV, optical, and infrared observations, Arnab traces the origins of these elements in quasars and early galaxies and maps their dispersion into the cosmos through X-ray studies of galaxy clusters. He is a member of the recently launched XRISM X-ray mission and a core developer of the widely used astronomical spectral synthesis code CLOUDY.
