Gene Leung
Gene obtained his PhD in 2020 at UC San Diego working with his advisor Alison Coil. Before moving to MIT, Gene was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin working with Steve Finkelstein. Gene’s research focuses on the key mechanisms driving the evolution of galaxies and supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in the first 3 billion years of the universe leveraging multiple large spectroscopic and imaging surveys, such as MOSDEF, NGDEEP and SHELA. He has assumed critical data leadership roles in each of these surveys. He is also interested in developing course-based undergraduate research experience. At MIT, Gene works with Anna-Christina Eilers on the evolution of supermassive black holes in the early universe.
