Leonardo Drake is a native of Arlington, MA, and earned his B.S. in Astrophysics from UMass Amherst, Commonwealth Honors College (2023), followed by an M.Sc. in Physics (2024). Leo’s main research focus at UMass was cataloging and modeling the distributions of extragalactic X-ray sources in edge-on galaxies. He also worked a little bit on the galaxy size-mass relation using data from the 3D-HST survey.
Currently, Leo is part of Herman Marshall’s group, splitting his time between X-ray analysis and working in the RedSox polarimetry lab.
Outside of MIT, Leo is a ski instructor at Cannon Mountain in New Hampshire and some of his hobbies include soccer, Formula 1, and fly fishing.
